A couple living with Alzheimer’s have been made ambassadors of a research charity.

Frank and Alison Littleford, from Wolverhampton, were named ambassadors of Alzheimer’s Research UK following their efforts to raise awareness of the disease.

Mr Littleford was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2020 and the pair have been working to support the charity since 2022.

They have done a number of media interviews and recently starred in a film created by the organisation, which explored how the disease had impacted their lives.

Mrs Littleford said they were both “delighted” and “incredibly humbled” to have been made ambassadors.

“We have experienced so many different losses as a result of Alzheimer’s and they continue as Frank’s health deteriorates,” she said.

“But among this sadness, a huge highlight has been our involvement with Alzheimer’s Research UK.”

She added that they had been proud to share their story and play their part in raising awareness of what living with Alzheimer’s was like.

“This has been so important in giving us a sense of purpose and a focus,” Mrs Littleford added.

'Extraordinary contribution'

Alzheimer’s Research UK said the couple were among a small group of supporters, scientists and celebrities to be given the honorary role.

Others include Dame Barbara Windsor’s widower Scott Mitchell, Iceland executive chairman Richard Walker and actors Will Poulter and Ruth Wilson.

Hilary Evans-Newton, chief executive of the charity, said Mr and Mrs Littleford had made an “extraordinary contribution”.

“Through sharing their story, they have also shone a spotlight on the hope that research brings,” she said.

“It is through the efforts of our brilliant supporters, like Alison and Frank, that we will find a cure.”
