Theatre's lighting upgrade to save £17,000 a year

A lighting upgrade to a theatre is set to reduce the building's electricity use by 30%.

The Royal Spa Centre, in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, hosts over 95,000 visitors each year It has had all its lighting - and specialist stage lighting - changed to energy efficient LED lights.

Warwick District Council said due to the building's busy schedule and long hours of operation, electricity use is higher than other council buildings.

The new upgrade will mean the theatre is expected to save 67,000 kWh of electricity per year - saving £17,000 a year in bills.

Councillor Lowell Williams said the lighting upgrade at the arts venue not only reduced carbon emissions by 14,000 tonnes a year but also provide an improved experience for visitors.

He said: "We will continue to identify the buildings within our asset portfolio to lower energy bills and reduce carbon emissions as part of our Low Cost, Low Carbon energy programme."
