A man who produced a gun following a dispute over parking has been jailed.

Trevor Cheesman, 62, of South View Avenue, Burringham, near Scunthorpe, became disgruntled after a member of the public parked on a driveway he claimed belonged to him, police said.

Cheesman admitted possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, as well as possession of ammunition without a certificate and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.

He was sentenced to five years in prison and handed a ten-year restraining order at Grimsby Crown Court on Wednesday.

'Reckless actions'

Humberside Police said Cheesman had initially approached a person who he believed was parked on his land holding a wheel clamp, before advising them to move during the incident in February.

After attempts were made to resolve the issue, Cheesman assaulted a member of the public, before producing a gun from behind his back, the force said.

He was arrested on suspicion of affray.

Officers later recovered a loaded gun and ammunition from his property.

Speaking at the conclusion of the case, Det Con Stephen Storey said: “The actions of Cheesman that day were reckless and could have led to devastating consequences for innocent members of the public.

“I am pleased he acknowledged his actions that day, admitting what he did and can no longer cause fear to members of the community," he added.
