A skip lorry driver has been arrested after a man died in a collision in a village.

Emergency services were called at about 10:30 BST on Friday to reports of a collision between a DAF vehicle and a black Nissan Juke on the A19 in Riccall, between Selby and York.

The driver of the Juke has been named as John Michael Duggan, 81, from Riccall. He died in hospital.

North Yorkshire Police said that the skip lorry driver, a 42-year-old man from York, was arrested at the scene and was assisting officers with enquiries.

Police said the Juke was joining the A19 from York Road.

The road was closed for several hours to allow officers to investigate the scene, and for the vehicles involved to be safely recovered.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the collision, which happened at the northbound junction with York Road, is asked to contact police.
