Island's new public health chief set to start work

Kate Harvey will begin her role as director of public health on 1 September 2025

A new director of public health for the Isle of Wight will start work in September.
Kate Harvey's appointment follows the council's decision to end its long-standing partnership with Hampshire County Council, marking what it called a "significant milestone in the island's journey towards a fully independent public health service".
She will oversee the council's public health team and be responsible for driving improvements in service delivery.
Council chief executive Wendy Perera said she was "delighted" Ms Harvey was joining and praised her "expertise and passion for public health".
Ms Harvey said: "The island has many strengths, strong communities, a vibrant voluntary sector, and a clear sense of place, yet not everyone has the same opportunity for good health.
"I'm excited to work closely with residents and partners to... reduce inequalities, so the island can be a fairer and healthier place for all."
