A Cornish teenager said she was "gutted" not to compete at the World Archery Youth Championships in Canada due to airline strikes.

Chloe Scott, 17, represented Great Britain (GB) in the European Youth Cup in Slovenia at the end of July, in which she came sixth overall in the individual under-18 compound women category.

The teen was due to go to Canada with Archery GB in August, but Air Canada strikes meant she was unable to travel.

"They could only send out six people in the end and I wasn't one of them. I was absolutely gutted," she said, adding attempts were made to book another flight were unsuccessful.

Ms Scott said it was upsetting

"In the end they were just like: 'We've tried everything. We're really sorry but we just can't send all of you out,'" she told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"I was upset, but then I was a bit like: 'For the people that are going out, they're going to do really well.'"

She said she started archery when she was four and had been shooting compound bows from the age of eight.

Compound bows are more complicated devices, using cams and wheels in their operation, as well as the drawstring.

Ms Scott said she hoped to represent GB in the the 2032 Olympics, which are due to be held in Brisbane, Australia.

"I'm looking a the 2032 one because 2028 I'm going to be a bit young," she added.

"So I'm now just trying to focus on that and get myself back up to where I need to be."
