Drink-drive arrest after girl, 12, hit by car

A motorist was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a 12-year-old girl was struck by a car in a town.

The collision happened in Horsemarket in Northampton town centre at about 16:45 BST on Monday.

Northamptonshire Police confirmed that the air ambulance attended the scene, but the girl, who suffered a head injury, was taken to hospital by road ambulance.

Officers said a 63-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
