Nearly 150 homes in in the Goldsworth Road area of Woking remain without gas

Nearly 150 homes in Surrey remain without gas after nearly a week of disruption.

Southern Gas Networks (SGN) said it was restoring supply to homes in the Goldsworth Road area of Woking after water leaked into its network on Sunday.

Approximately 200 homes of the 340 thought to be affected have had their supply restored, leaving about 140 homes without gas supply.

An SGN spokesperson said it was "confident of being able to restore many more throughout the day".

The firm said remaining pockets of water had "slowed our progress" in restoring supply overnight.

It added: "It may take longer for some homes to be reconnected where water has entered the service pipe leading up to these individual properties.

"We're working hard to remove this water as soon as we can."

More than 84,000 litres of water have been removed from the gas network since the beginning of the week, SGN added.

The exact circumstances of how the water entered SGN infrastructure remains under investigation.

Residents previously said their heating had been affected and they had been unable to use their cooker.

Support for customers remains available in the car park of Morrison's in Goldsworth Road, which will be open until 19:00 GMT.
