Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information over the death of a driver on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire.

Police said officers received a call at 04:40 GMT on Sunday about the crash - on the southbound carriageway near to junction 22 - which involved a white VW Golf and a Leyland DAF HGV.

The Golf driver died at the scene, while the HGV driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and later discharged.

Leicestershire Police said inquiries so far suggested before the crash, the Golf had been involved in an earlier collision and had stopped stationary in lane one before it was struck.

The force, which has not made any arrests so far, said it was keen to speak to anyone who might have driven past and seen the Golf in the left-hand lane before the crash involving the HGV.

Any drivers who may have captured relevant footage on their dashcams are also urged to contact police.
