A council is providing free bus travel on weekends running up to Christmas.

Wokingham Borough Council will offer free single fares on all local bus journeys, external that start in the Berkshire borough on seven dates.

The offer applies on Sunday 30 November and over the three weekends before Christmas.

The council said the offer, paid for using government funding, still applies to people travelling outside the borough but passengers may need to pay for return journeys in areas that might not be offering a similar scheme.

It also added it does not apply to services like park and rides or football shuttles.

The council said it was happy to help people reduce costs over the festive season and said the free buses coincide with local Christmas events like the Wokingham Winter Carnival and the Woodley Christmas Extravaganza.
