A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a former nightclub in Eastbourne, police have said.

Sussex Police said the man remained in custody, and that the large fire on the top floor of the building in Terminus Road had been put out.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service previously said it was called shortly after 23:00 BST on Monday to the blaze.

The brigade said there were no casualties reported.

Pictures from the scene showed fire crews tackling flames in the former NME nightclub.

The fire was extinguished by 05:45, the service said, but an inspection would take place later in the day to check the building again.

Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were at the scene, and the road has since reopened to the public.
