Work on seafront scheme expected to start soon

A developer is expected to be appointed for a coastal defence scheme in Paignton by the end of January, says Torbay Council.
The planning application for the Paignton and Preston coastal flood protection scheme was given the go ahead in June after several rounds of consultation.
The council said the first stage of the plan would "involve the essential diversion of utility services" over the next three months.
It said the main construction work was likely to take place after the summer holidays to "minimise disruption to our local tourism, businesses and people".
'Once in a generation'
Torbay Council previously said the flood defence work was needed to protect the areas from rising sea levels for the next 50 years.
It estimated that more than 350 properties were currently at risk of flooding.
Councillor Chris Lewis, deputy leader and cabinet member for Place Development and Economic Growth, said: "The council appreciates that there will be disruption to local people and businesses once the main development is under way.
"This is however a once in a generation opportunity to provide long-term coastal defences and public realm improvements for the Paignton and Preston areas.
"We thank people in advance for their patience as we make these essential improvements for the long-term protection of our communities."
