A police appeal has been launched after a man was threatened and robbed by masked youths as he walked along a city lakeside path.

Cambridgeshire Police say the victim, a man in his 50s, was confronted by four men on bicycles on the footpath by the rowing lake at Longthorpe Parkway in Peterborough at 14:25 GMT on 17 January.

His wallet and a Tag Heuer Formula 1 wristwatch were taken in the raid, police said.

The force said the men, described as Asian and aged between 16 and 20, were wearing dark face masks - two depicted grinning mouths.

The police said one of the attackers was riding a bright yellow mountain bike and wielding a thick tree branch like a baseball bat.

Det Con George Corney said: "This was a horrible experience for the victim and I'd appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

"If you believe you know the identity of the suspects, or saw them in the area at the time, please contact us."
