Woman, 27, killed and two men injured in East Ayrshire crash

A 27-year-old woman has died following a crash on the A71 between Newmilns and Darvel in East Ayrshire.

Police were called to the scene east of Newmilns at about 11:05 on Thursday. The crash involved a red Ford Focus Zetec and a silver Mercedes Vito.

The woman driving the Ford died at the scene. Her passenger, a 24-year-old man, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 52-year-old man, was taken to Crosshouse University Hospital in Kilmarnock with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police closed the road for investigation and it re-opened at about 21:00.

Sgt Martin Cunningham said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at what is a difficult time for all.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch."
