A listed former chapel is to be converted from offices into almost 20 flats.

The former Mount Zion Chapel building on Westfield Terrace, Sheffield, was built in 1834 and converted into offices in 1988.

Sheffield City Council granted planning permission to create 18 self-contained flats while retaining parking and vehicular access.

Developers said 25% of the flats would be suitable for people with disabilities and the scheme would not impact the building's Grade II listed facade.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, planning documents said: "Only external alterations are to the south elevation with minor window alterations to match windows adjacent to previous toilet facilities," the planning document said.

“The windows are designed to be the same proportions as existing installed utilising identical profile/material."

Window alterations will have no effect on the listed frontage because they are to the side elevation of the 1980’s three-storey office block, the plans added.
