National park offers sneak peak at new headquarters

A national park has opened its doors for a sneak peek of its new visitor centre in a historic building with a " fascinating history".
Members of the public were allowed into the brand new Exmoor National Park centre in Exmoor House, Dulverton, for its Dulverton By Starlight Christmas event.
The building was previously a workhouse that was converted in the early 20th Century.
Dan James, from the national park, said that, although the move from its previous site off Fore Street was a "difficult decision", it had helped make "significant savings".
The Exmoor National Park authority works in partnership with the community, local councils, businesses and other organisations to look after the national park.
All three of the Exmoor National Park centres at Dulverton, Dunster and Lynmouth have won the South West Tourism Awards and offer advice, alongside displays, and exhibits to "bring the story of Exmoor to life".
“We are really pleased with how well the transition has gone," Mr James said.
“It was a difficult decision to relocate our award-winning centre, but, with core funding being reduced by over 50% in real terms, we had to find significant savings.
'See behind the doors'
"We’re excited to offer people the opportunity to see behind the doors at Exmoor House."
Mr James said the Exmoor House has a "fascinating history".
"It started life as a workhouse, and people are always keen to see behind the big green door," he added.
The Dulverton National Park Centre will be officially reopened in spring 2025.
