A hospice has been forced to shut its shop due to rising costs.

Lakelands Hospice, in Corby, Northamptonshire, has closed Lakelands Hospice Emporium, which was a shop and cafe based in New Post Office Square.

A spokesperson said: "Lakelands Emporium [is] very sad to announce that unfortunately we are having to permanently close our shop due to massively rising costs."

The hospice, which opened in 2001, is a charity that provides palliative support for people with cancer, heart failure and other life-limiting illnesses.

The spokesperson added: "A big thank-you to the wonderful people of Corby for all the support you have given us through donations and being loyal customers at the Emporium."

The charity said its warehouse and donation station in the town would remain open.
