A woman has praised a bus driver who travelled more than 10 miles out of his way to get her son home.

Codey, 11 and from Dawley, Telford, got on the wrong bus from the town's bus station on Tuesday.

He didn't realise his mistake until he was nearly in Bridgnorth - the other end of the number eight route.

Codey's mother Jodie thanked the "lovely gentleman" for bringing him back, even though the driver wasn't scheduled to do a return trip.

"[Codey] didn't have any battery on his phone, so there was no way of contacting him when he was late home and I was obviously worried sick," she told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Jodie said she was "10 minutes away from calling the police" when she found out Codey was safe.

"He just walked in, gave me a hug and burst into tears - but said how grateful he was to this lovely man to have brought him back, otherwise he would have been lost," Jodie said.

She has been in touch with the bus company to ask them to thank the driver involved.
