A dragon boat festival is taking place in Jersey on Saturday to raise money for charity.

The festival will begin at 09:30 BST at Albert Pier in St Helier.

It will see more than 40 teams of 17 people take to the waters on 40ft (12.2m) canoe-like dragon boats to race in different heats.

Scott Douglas, the events and lotteries manager, said people did not need experience to take part, "just loads of enthusiasm".

He said: “The day provides a great carnival atmosphere, fun, laughter, and friendly competition."

He added the money raised would go towards Jersey Hospice Care, which offers end of life care, support for families and bereavement services.

People can also watch the races, with food and drink stalls as well as entertainment for children.

All teams who take part have pledged to raise a minimum of £500 for the hospice.
