Scottish Conservative candidate Julie Currie has won Dumfries and Galloway Council's Stranraer and the Rhins by-election.

Reform UK candidate John Roberts had the most first preference votes, but Ms Currie ended up winning at stage seven, external. Voter turnout was 34%.

The by-election was held after Dumfries and Galloway's longest-serving councillor, Willie Scobie, stepped down.

The 75-year-old had represented Stranraer and the Rhins for 37 years. He was elected into office eight times as a Labour candidate and, more recently, as an independent.
