Flood alerts issued ahead of Storm Ashley impact

Flood alerts mean people should prepare for any potential flooding incidents

A series of flood alerts have been issued for Norfolk and Suffolk as forecasters warned of strong wind gusts.

It came as disruption was expected in parts of the UK due to the impact of Storm Ashley.

The Met Office said gusts could reach 51mph (82km/h) in Lowestoft, Suffolk, by Sunday afternoon.

People living on the north Norfolk coast were told to prepare for potential incidents of minor flooding throughout the morning.

Flood alerts mean flooding is possible and residents should make preparations in advance.

The three alerts that have been put in place in Norfolk are:

• From East Cley to Kelling Hard, including Salthouse.

• From Old Hunstanton to, and including, Cley next the Sea.

• The tidal rivers Bure, Ant and Thurne.

People have also been told to brace for wind gusts reaching higher than normal speeds.

They would be at their strongest by 13:00 BST on Sunday, the Met Office said.

Gusts were estimated to hit 45mph (72km/h) in Cromer and 44mph (71km/h) in Hunstanton and Wells-next-the-Sea.
