Jersey Cheshire home hopes to work with schools and community groups to decorate wheelchairs

A care home in Jersey has launched an initiative to make people more aware of disabilities.

Jersey Cheshire home, which provides residential care for adults with disabilities, said it wanted to work with schools and community groups to decorate wheelchairs for its Wheelchair Art for Awareness scheme.

It said those involved could use lights, flowers, recycled goods and "anything that transforms the chair into a remarkable piece of art" as part of the competition.

Donna Abel, Jersey Cheshire Home CEO, said the initiative would promote a positive message and respect the "dignity of wheelchair users".

'Creativity'

She said: "This project not only highlights the creativity and spirit of our community but also underscores the importance of inclusivity and disability awareness.

“By participating in this initiative, you will not only elevate awareness of disabilities but also contribute to a memorable and impactful event that promotes creativity, empathy and community involvement.”

The decorated wheelchairs will be displayed across the island during National Inclusion week in September.
