Councillors have approved plans to build 74 homes on the edge of a Derbyshire town.

Developer Jones Homes wants to build the properties off Mill Lane in Bolsover.

Bolsover District Council's planning committee voted to give the go-ahead for the scheme in a meeting on Wednesday.

The committee heard the 3.2 acre (1.3 hectare) site was formerly used for agriculture.

A planning report said some residents were concerned about the loss of an area for wildlife which is already surrounded by homes.

However, it said the developer had agreed to make a £164,095 payment to a Derbyshire Wildlife Trust scheme to rewild 60 acres (24.3 hectares) of land at Whittington near Chesterfield.

The council said seven of the new homes would be affordable properties.
