Two in hospital after fire at island cottage

Two people have been taken to hospital after firefighters worked overnight to put out a fire at a cottage on the Isle of Wight.

Crews from across the island were sent to Combley Road, near Havenstreet ,at about 22:45 BST on Wednesday where the flames had spread to both the ground and first floors of the semi-detached property.

Two people from the cottage were taken into the care of the ambulance service, with the island's NHS trust confirming the pair were taken to hospital.

Crews returned to the home to dampen down hotspots earlier. The fire service said the cause was not yet known.
