Arrest after armed police sent to property

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage after armed police were called to a property in Plymouth.

Officers were sent to a building in Barne Barton at 21:00 BST on Wednesday after they received reports that a woman was being assaulted, police said.

Officers said a man had barricaded the address and was making further threats.

Devon and Cornwall Police said negotiations took place and officers forced entry at about 22:35.

Firearms officers attended alongside the ambulance and fire service as there were reports the man had a knife and a firearm, police said.

However, no firearm was found, the force added.

The woman was checked by paramedics and was not injured, police said.

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage and remains in custody.
