Damaged cable postpones opening of ice rink
- Published
The opening of an ice rink in Jersey has been delayed after an on-site electricity cable was damaged.
The rink at the Weighbridge in St Helier was scheduled to open for October half-term but a metal stake was accidentally driven through a 90,000-volt electricity cable.
The Jersey Development Company (JDC) said the incident happened on 11 October when an anchoring stake to weather-proof the rink’s marquee against high winds was being put into the ground.
The JDC said the the proximity of the cable meant it was not possible for the rink to open while repair works were ongoing.
'Specialist teams'
Jersey Electricity are working with the JDC to repair the cable, but specialist teams also need to be brought in from the UK.
The JDC apologised for the delay and any disappointment it caused.
It said: "JDC appreciate that there will be many disappointed children as the rink had been planned to open in time for the October half-term and are sorry for the unforeseen delay to the ice rink’s opening."
Affected bookings can be amended by using the Jersey On Ice Rink app or refunded by emailing JDC.
The opening has been rescheduled for 15 November.
