A victim of knife crime who turned to mentoring young people has appealed to trace the nurse he believes saved his life, over three decades after the attack.

Quinton Green, 48, said he was stabbed seven times at a petrol station in Kingsheath, Northampton, in 1993 following an argument.

An off-duty nurse who he said happened to be there came to his aid and travelled with him to hospital but he never saw her again.

Mr Green said: "I haven't met her. It's years and years ago now. I'd like to meet her and say thank you. [The work I do] is part of her legacy… she saved my life that day."

He previously appealed in a local newspaper in 1993 but received no reply.

Mr Green said he often thought about the nurse, describing how he would "break down in tears" but also feel "installed with a bit of pride" if he met her, telling her "I have nothing but gratitude".

"If she wasn't there I wouldn't like to think where I would be. She had the medical knowledge, the medical know-how – tourniquets and bandages," he said.

He also described the nurse as "like an angel" and said his work mentoring young people was part of his way of saying thank you.

"If we find her, I hope she's ready for big hugs," he added.
