Man in critical condition after pub assault

A man in his 60s is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted at a pub in Wakefield.

The incident took place at the Red Lion pub on Batley Road shortly before 23:30 BST on Thursday, according to West Yorkshire Police.

The man remained in a critical condition on Saturday, a spokesperson for the force said.

A 27-year-old man from Wakefield has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and remains in custody. A 31-year-old woman, also from Wakefield, who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and assaulting a police officer, has been released on bail.

Officers asked anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
