Free tyre safety checks offered to islanders

Islanders can have their tyres checked for free later this month

Islanders are being offered free tyre safety checks to increase awareness and improve road safety.
The Government of Jersey said there would be drop-in sessions on a first come first served basis.
Constable Andy Jehan said the data collected would help them understand the scale of any safety issues.
"But of course the real value lies in the lives we can protect by encouraging people to act before problems arise," he said.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Road Safety Team and Driver and Vehicle standards (DVS) in the infrastructure and environment department in partnership with TyreSafe and TAF tyres.
Chair of TyreSafe Stuart Lovatt said: "Tyres are the first and only point of contact with the road, yet they are often the last thing drivers think about.
"Through education, practical checks, and data-driven insight, we can help drivers build safer habits and prevent avoidable collisions."
The government said Tyresafe checks in Jersey showed 21% of tyres required replacement and 27% were borderline.
It added the initiative supported island's collision and casualty reduction plan, which aims to cut by half the number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads by 2034.
The tyre checks for parked cars, or drop-ins on a first come first served basis, are being held on 15 October at Les Jardins Car Park, 16 October at Patriotic Street Car Park and 27 October at Jersey Airport Car Park.
