A second man has been arrested by police investigating a series of attacks in which liquids were thrown at people from vehicles.

The incidents happened on Monday in Church Street, Cannon Street and Cambridge Street, in Wellingborough, at about 22:00 BST, Northamptonshire Police said.

One victim reported suffering skin irritation as a result and tests are under way to confirm the substance involved.

A 19-year-old Wellingborough man arrested in connection with the case was released on bail and a second man, aged 24, was later arrested and also released on bail.

Police said the incidents were believed to have been random and not targeted at any specific community or gender.

They said there had been other similar reports but they did not believe any of the other incidents were connected to the two men who had been arrested.

Ch Insp Carl Wilson, said: "We appreciate that incidents of this nature are hugely concerning to those involved and the local community.

"Our fast-paced inquiries have established there do not appear to be any links between the incidents on 12 August and those on other dates, which are believed to be linked to other offenders.

"In relation to the incidents on 12 August, we believe the substance sprayed on to people was non-corrosive, with tests under way to confirm its exact nature."
