Tip closed after damage caused by HGV
- Published
A Leicestershire tip has closed over "safety concerns" after a HGV caused damage to the site.
The vehicle, which was replacing a waste container at Kibworth tip on Tuesday afternoon, caused damage to a steel canopy over the bays, which led to the site closing on Wednesday.
A structural assessment now needs to be carried out at the recycling and household waste site off the A6 and Leicestershire County Council said it would reopen when it was "safe to do so".
A spokesperson for the authority apologised for the disruption caused by the closure, but said "the safety of staff and site users is our top priority".
As a result of the closure, the council has announced Market Harborough tip will be open every day until and including Saturday 16 November.
The site in Riverside is usually open Thursday to Saturday, but will continue to be open all of next week.
