Bank branch on high street to close in February

The Ramsey branch of Lloyds is the only one outside of the island's capital

One of two remaining dedicated Lloyds Bank International branches on the Isle of Man is set to be closed next year due to a drop in use.

The branch, on Parliament Street in Ramsey, will close to customers on 10 February.

The bank said the decision had been taken after personal customer transactions at the facility fell by a third.

The move means the organisation’s only site that offers in-person banking services will be at the Villiers House site on Victoria Street in the island’s capital.

The organisation said it had seen use of its in-person services for personal transactions drop by 33% over a six year period to the end of 2023.

A Lloyds spokesperson said mobile banking had become “more popular than ever” leading to visits to the Ramsey branch “falling over time”.

Services were still available through the mobile app, online and on the phone, she added.

The organisation also has some banking services available in Isle of Man Post Office branches in Castletown and Peel, with the facilities due to be made available in Ramsey from 25 November.

The announcement follows the closure of regional branches of the Isle of Man Bank in recent years, due to a rise in customers switching to online banking.

In January 2021, the organisation, which is owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland International, closed its dedicated facilities in Castletown and Peel.
