Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was raped in a Berkshire park.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was attacked in Beresford Park off Beresford Road, Reading, on Friday between 01:00 and 01:30 BST, said Thames Valley Police.

The force said the man was known to the victim.

He was described as mixed race, with a Romanian or Turkish accent, about 5ft 6in, with short brown hair, a beard and moustache, and may have had a silver bicycle with him.

Det Sgt Yvonne Newman said: "We understand this rape will cause concern but we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public."

She added that appropriate safeguards had been put in place, including extra police officers on patrol in Reading town centre on Friday and Saturday night.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact police.
