Major expansion for village after planning decision

A village with a population of around 700 could see a major influx of new residents after the council approved planning permission for 765 new homes.
The new development at Mudford, just north of Yeovil had previously been approved but interventions from the last government meant the application had to resubmitted.
As well as new homes, the developer also has permission to build a care home, a takeaway restaurant, retail shops and a medical facility.
Mudford Parish Council had opposed the development over its potential impact on the local environment, the level of affordable housing and additional traffic.
Somerset Councillor for Castle Cary Henry Hobhouse told BBC Radio Somerset he was concerned about the "swamping" of the village by the new development.
He added he was also concerned about "the run off from the hill... which will run straight in to the River Yeo and make the problem of flooding... worse."
Mr Hobhouse said: "On this occasion I think Mudford will be alright. What worries me is the next bit of this development... which will engulf Mudford completely - it would become Yeovil."
Somerset's planning south committee approved the development at its meeting on 22 October, barring the access requirements set out in the application.
BBC News has contacted the developer, Abbey Manor Group, for further comment.
