An electrical fault in a television is being blamed for a severe fire at a house in Wolverhampton.

It broke out before 19:00 BST on Tuesday in the first-floor bedroom of the semi-detached property on Hill Avenue, Lanesfield.

Firefighters from Bilston, Dudley, Wolverhampton and Tipton as well as an aerial ladder platform from Walsall were sent to the scene. A room and roof space of the home were badly damaged by fire.

Two men had escaped and were checked over after breathing in smoke, but there were no other injuries, West Midlands Fire Service said.

The fire was extinguished by about 20:00 BST, with crews checking it had not spread to neighbouring properties.

Firefighters returned overnight to check there were no further issues, finally leaving about 08:20 BST on Wednesday.
