Guernsey's Committee for Health and Social Care (HSC) has applied to replace the roof of the island's only homeless shelter.

George Nichols, an Architectural technologist at the States, said the current roof was in "poor condition".

He said: "Ongoing water ingress is causing damage to the internal fabric of the building."

The BBC has asked HSC how much has been budgeted for these repairs.

Some of the roof is finished with asbestos and HSC has asked to remove this as part of the application.

The application seeks permission to replace the timber roof structure and parapet walls and also demolish the chimneys.

St Julian's House is currently home to about 20 people and is Guernsey's only government sponsored homelesseness shelter.

Charities have previously called for more emergency housing in light of the island's housing crisis.
