A police officer has denied sending inappropriate text messages to a witness.

PC Jake Sales, based in Margate, Kent, allegedly sent the texts from his work phone to a witness he met during the course of his duties, according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

He was charged with misconduct in public office as well as forgery for allegedly drafting an inaccurate witness statement.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and will face trial in January.
