A "landmark" Art Deco building in Blackpool is set to be transformed into a hotel.

The former Yates pub on the Promenade has fallen into disrepair since shutting in 2022.

It is set to be converted into an 18-bedroom hotel with two restaurants and two bars, after revised proposals from owner Raghbir Singh Basrai were approved by Blackpool Council.

Structural consultants Abott Hull Ltd said the development "seeks to restore its architectural character while introducing a vibrant mix of complementary uses".

"The proposed works are extensive and include the erection of an additional floor to the existing building, a front canopy with a first-floor roof terrace, a second-floor front-facing roof terrace, a three-storey rear extension and a single-storey rear glazed covered seating area," it said of the plans.

The council's planning officer said the development would "bring a landmark locally listed building that has stood empty for some time back into use, having a positive impact on the streetscene".
