Resort introduces e-cargo bikes to reduce pollution

Two new pedal assist electric cargo vehicles will be used to carry out essential tasks along a section of coast as part of a push for cleaner air.
They will be deployed to restock catering outlets and replenish washroom facilities along beaches in Poole and Bournemouth.
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council used recently acquired government funding to purchase the vehicles.
They replace the diesel vans previously used to carry out the same tasks.
With pedal power and batteries that can be charged overnight, it is hoped the bikes will make a valuable contribution to improving air quality in the area.
Richard Pincroft, head of transport and sustainable travel at BCP Council, said: “It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to improve air quality, reduce congestion, and encourage eco-friendly, sustainable transport for both work and leisure purposes.”
Part of a £120,000 grant from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (DEFRA) Air Quality Fund has been used to purchase the e-cargo bikes.
