About 5,000 people on the States of Guernsey payroll, including police officers and firefighters, were not paid salaries and pensions on time after a "human error", the States said.

It said the "payroll process" error meant both staff and former staff did not receive their pay and pensions overnight on 29 November.

The States said the issue was being "addressed urgently" and those affected would receive their payments by early afternoon on 30 November.

The error meant all former States staff, except teachers, did not receive their pensions, a spokesman said.

The error had impacted staff from police, fire, including airport personnel, prison workers and staff in the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre in Guernsey (JESCC).
