A crematorium in East Yorkshire is opening its doors to the public for behind-the-scenes tours.

Staff at Lelley Fields Crematorium in Holderness said the open day was a chance for visitors to learn about the cremation process and ask any questions they may have.

The event will take place between 09:00 and 13:00 BST on Saturday 20 July.

Lelley Fields opened in February 2023 and is the first new crematorium to be built in the East Riding since 1998.

Manager Christine Walker-Kelley said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to come along and learn about what we do here, experiencing things they wouldn't typically get to see.

“They can have a look around, meet our lovely team here and ask any questions they have."

She added: "Nothing is off limits."

Work on the council-run facility off Sproatley Road, near Preston, began at the end of 2021.

The previous crematorium to open in the area was the privately-run Haltemprice Crematorium which started operating in 1998.

The free event is open to anyone and there is no need to book, staff said.
