There are 12 constituencies in Hertfordshire and like elsewhere in the country, the majority, bar one, have been Conservative. Not any more.

The general election saw Labour win seven seats, the Conservatives win three - and the Liberal Democrats, including the party's deputy leader, win two.

Here - in alphabetical order by constituency - are the MPs taking their seats in Westminster for the county.

Lewis Cocking is the new Conservative MP for Broxbourne

The Conservative Party has retained Broxbourne with the election of Lewis Cocking, external, who replaces Tory Sir Charles Walker, who stood down.

Mr Cocking, a Hertfordshire councillor, and the county's deputy police and crime commissioner, said his priorities included more investment in flood prevention, better skills training and apprenticeships, banking hubs in town centres, and healthcare for all.

Voter turnout for this constituency was 57%.

The Liberal Democrats' Victoria Collins, external is the constituency's new MP, which was previously held by Tory Bim Afolami before the boundaries were redrawn.

Based in Berkhamsted, the entrepreneur says she grew up helping her mother in their gift shop.

She puts support for small businesses and the environment as a priority, having also worked in the European Parliament and plans to advocate "to stop sewage dumping in precious local chalk streams and rivers".

Voter turnout in this constituency was 75%.

Labour's David Taylor, external took the seat of Hemel Hempstead from the Conservatives.

The charity worker who took aid to Kyiv, has roots in Hemel where his parents grew up.

He describes the post-war new town as one of Labour’s finest achievements – providing our families with decent housing, jobs, schools and healthcare.

The constituency voter turnout was 62%, down 7.5% from 2019.

Voter turnout in this constituency was 75%.

Mr Dean who promises to, “deliver the change residents’ voted for as Hertford and Stortford’s first ever Labour MP”.

The Conservatives held the seat with political heavyweight and former Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden, external being returned to represent the area.

Voter turnout for this constituency was 65%, down by 6.4% on 2019.

Alistair Strathern is now the MP for Hitchin

Alistair Strathern, external has taken the seat of Hitchin, a seat straddling parts of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, following electoral boundary changes.

It had been a Conservative seat when it was part of the Hitchin and Harpenden constituency.

Mr Strathern who lives in Shefford, served briefly as the Mid-Bedfordshire MP following a by-election in 2023.

Voter turnout for this constituency was 69% down by 6.4% on 2019.

Labour's Chris Hinchcliff, external took North East Hertfordshire from the Conservatives, and is the area's first Labour MP in 50 years. The seat had previously been held by Sir Oliver Heald who chose to retire.

The former councillor, who lives in Royston, has worked for the past five years as a professional political campaigner and is a policy expert in the charity sector, notably the Council for the Protection of Rural England.

Voter turnout for this constituency was 68%, down by 3.9%.

Deputy Lib Dem leader Daisy Cooper was re-elected to serve St Albans

Daisy Cooper, external, the Liberal Democrat deputy leader was returned as the MP for St Albans and has been the town's MP since 2019.

She runs the St Albans Commuter Action Group and is a supporter of the Save St Albans Pubs campaign.

Before being elected, she worked in Commonwealth affairs for 10 years, including campaigning for LGBT+ rights abroad.

She also worked for Hacked Off, the campaign for a free and accountable press.

Voter turnout for this constituency was 71%, but down by 7% on 2019.

Kevin Bonavia, external is the new MP for Stevenage. The last time Labour represented the seat was in 2005.

He said: "I’ve made a career getting justice for victims of hacking and fraud as a solicitor.

"I know what it takes to support people who are most in need of help.

"Public service is in my DNA. I’ve spent 14 years as a councillor – serving as an armed forces champion."

A UNISON union branch officer, he said he understood the pressures on public services and the workers that deliver them.

Welwyn Hatfield is now served by Labour's Andrew Lewin, external, who won the seat from the Conservative's defence secretary, Grant Shapps.

Mr Lewin who worked for a housing association was born in Welwyn Garden City. He lives in the constituency with his wife and children.

Voter turnout for this constituency was 64% down by 5.1%.
