Thousands of pounds worth of equipment belonging to a speedway team has been stolen during a break-in.

Workington Comets said it happened in the early hours of Wednesday at its Northside Speedway track.

A storage building housing track equipment, strimmers, grass cutters and power tools was targeted.

Cumbria Police said it was investigating and has appealed for information.

The club is offering a cash reward for the return of its equipment.

It added it hoped to be "back on track" for its home meeting against Plymouth on 15 June.

A police spokesperson said the break-in was believed to have taken place between 17:00 BST on Tuesday and 08:00 BST on Wednesday.

"Unknown suspects have entered a cabin at the location by breaking a window and taken power tools," they said.
