Christmas tree appeal to shore up sand dunes
- Published
Volunteers are appealing for old Christmas trees to help save a sand dune on a Cornish beach.
Community group Beach Guardian said it was collecting Christmas trees to form a windbreak within the sand dunes at Constantine Bay .
The group said in total it had buried nearly 500 trees and retained 2,000 tonnes of sand by building the dunes.
Emily Stevenson, from Beach Guardian, said: "We need as many trees as possible because we can plant them all year round."
She added: "As climate change is getting worst, it's degrading the sand dunes. We need to do all we can to protect those dunes."
The group is holding a collection for trees at Trevisker community garden centre until 14 January, which when the planting process will begin.
