Councillors will consider plans for 25 affordable homes on a former garden nursery site.

Developer PA Housing submitted an application to Guildford Borough Council for the new homes in Ripley.

They would be built on the site of the former Highlands Nurseries, in Portsmouth Road, which is currently empty.

Almost 50 letters of objection have been sent to the council, including concerns about affordable rent homes being "out of character" with the area.

The application will go before a meeting of the planning committee on Wednesday.

Officers say the plans should be approved for the green belt site.

The developer said the homes had been designed around a central public green space with a play area and pond.

It said: "The houses have generous gardens and the existing trees within the site boundaries will be retained with additional planting creating a biodiverse development."

A council report about the application said the homes would meet the needs of people on the council's housing register with a local connection to Ripley parish.

The plans , externalinclude one-bed apartments, a one-bed semi-detached bungalow, and two- and three- bed semi-detached houses.
