Van driver dies in crash with road-laying machine

A man has died following a crash involving a van and a road-laying machine in the south of Scotland.

The accident happened at about 06:45 on the A75 near Glenluce and involved a white Peugeot Partner and a stationary Volvo paver vehicle.

The driver of the van - a 49-year-old man - was taken to the Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer where he was pronounced dead.

Sgt Lloyd Caven said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the deceased at this time.

“Inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash are ongoing and we’d like to thank the public for their understanding, as officers carry out their work in the area."

Anyone with information has been asked to come forward and contact police, external.

The road was shut for several hours and diversions put in place.
