A Cornish teenager and her horse will be appearing at the London International Horse Show.

Ellie Hutchings, 18, from Talland Bay, near Looe, and her horse Nia are appearing in the Rising Stars Working Horse category, which is aimed at amateurs and new emerging stars of the showing scene.

Ellie had not shown a horse before she entered a competition at the Liskeard Show in July.

She won the class and in doing so won a category pass to enter the international event.

Ellie said: "It means everything to me, it's been my dream since I was a very little girl and it's finally come true.

"Mum's been teaching me since very young, I was plonked on a horse before I could walk"

Ellie and Nia, who is a thoroughbred cross Welsh horse, will be competing on Saturday at 08:30 GMT when they will have to clear the jumping round.

Then all competitors will walk, trot and canter around the ring before lining up in the centre to complete an individual show.

Ellie said Nia was "a very good mare, she's such a good girl, she'll do really well at the show and we'll just do our best".

Ellie's mum, Vanessa Hutchings, said: "To see your daughter go in and do a competition like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity so we're just going to grab it and go."
