Size of Jersey's public sector hits record level

More people were working for the Government of Jersey at the end of last year than at any point since records began, new figures show.
A report from Statistics Jersey said there were 9,450 public sector jobs in December 2023 – an annual increase of 380 and 1,670 more than in December 2018.
It means Jersey's public sector has grown in size by 21.5% in five years, Statistics Jersey said.
The report also said 330 more private sector jobs existed in December 2023 than 12 months earlier, taking the total to 54,760 roles.
In total, there were 64,200 jobs in Jersey at the end of last year, the report said.
