A dancer and former ice skater from West Sussex is celebrating her 103rd birthday.

Dinkie Flowers, from Shoreham, said she was hoping to spend time with friends to mark the special occasion on Tuesday.

Ms Flowers explained that the secret to her long and happy life was her passion for dancing.

She said: "I don't sit on my bottom all day. I dance all day."

Ms Flowers, who continues to be an avid dancer, said she performed as a professional ice skater "all over the world" and in front of Prince Philip, who thanked her in a letter.

The former dance teacher, who ran her own studio up until the pandemic, explained that her favourite styles of dance included tap and ballet.

In 2021, at the age of 99, Ms Flowers took part in a 45-minute workout session three times a week to raise money for NHS charities.

She also performed on BBC One's The Greatest Dancer, external when she was 98.
