Posters designed by children to slow down speeding drivers near their primary school have been turned into road signs.

Three designs, with the message “20 is plenty”, have gone up outside Meadows Primary School and Nursery in Ketley, Telford.

Telford & Wrekin Council, which funded the project, said it followed several “near misses” involving pupils.

A banner asking parents to drive slowly and park safely was put up outside the school entrance.

Head teacher Joseph Piatczanyn said: “Following near misses and regularly seeing cars driving too fast near our school, we wanted to ensure we are doing everything possible to encourage drivers to keep our children safe.”

Councillor Kelly Middleton said: “It’s very concerning to hear about drivers speeding outside Meadows Primary and putting pupils in danger.

"I would urge all drivers to slow down outside any school for the safety of the children.”

The authority allocated £1,500 to the scheme, including £750 from the Safer and Stronger Communities programme and £750 from Councillors’ Pride fund.
